This is a macro shot of a friendly grasshopper taken on the hood of my car. I was surprised that this insect allowed me to get as close as I did. There are approximately eighteen thousand different types of grasshoppers in every part of the world (except the North and South Pole). Interesting to know that these critters actually have five eyes, and no ears, but can still hear with an organ called a tympanum.
