This picture depicts a very artistic hood ornament that resides on the hood of an old Pierce-Arrow. The chrome archer has been the mascot for Pierce-Arrow since they debuted the 81 Series in 1928. The idea for hood ornaments originated when people started to decorate their motometers (a device used to measure the temperature of an engine). Very few manufacturers still produce vehicles with hood ornaments. The Mercedes star and the Jaguar cat is perhaps the very end of an era.
