Shown in this photograph is the welcome stamp above the entrance, of mighty Fort Erie. This old historic fort is located in the far south-eastern tip of the Niagara Peninsula. Fort Erie was the only fort along the Canadian side of the border that consisted of walls built completely in stone. This stronghold was involved in the only siege on Canadian soil during the War of 1812. Overlooking the Niagara River it was also the site of the last naval battle on the Great Lakes.
