In North America the most common type of hawk is the Red-tailed hawk that is pictured here. They are extremely adaptable, and can survive in any region, stretching from the cold Northwest Territories through to the warm climate of Jamaica. It is a very interesting fact to know that when diving, Red-tailed hawks can reach speeds up to 120mph or 190km/h. They prey mostly on small mammals and rodents, this includes the jackrabbit that are double the weight of the common Red-tail.
