Hard At Work [#109] - Click for previous

Shown in this picture is a North American Honey Bee hard at work. Bees have been making honey for over 150 million years, and it is an interesting fact to know that it is "skill", not instinct. The younger bees are taught how to make honey by the older more experienced ones. During the average lifespan of one bee (28 to 35 days), it will produce approximately 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. To make one pound of honey, workers in a hive will have to travel over 55,000 miles, and tap 2 million flowers.
